This is a series of mini projects illustrating my ability to create designs that visually illustrate the principles of design, such as Emphasis and Focal Point, Balance, Rhythm, Movement, Figure and Ground, Scale and Proportion, and Color.
This series includes three bigger projects including a design depicting the theme of music. The goal was to illustrate this theme through 8 different boxes which would display text or illustrations on top of a blank canvas. This was done with varying images that represent music such as music notes, iPod, CD player, headphones, sound waves, a record player, and two lines of text reading "When the world fails" in thin script and "Music Speaks." in bold script.
Another design is based off of the Barranquilla Carnival of Colombia. This design was to encompass the vibrant colors seen at the festival as well as different aspects of the carnival through the shapes and image illustrated. I chose to achieve this with an image of the twirling skirts of the dancers seen at the festival. The final product had to be created with construction paper in blocks of shapes not overlapping on top of black cardstock to emphasize the design.
And finally a third design illustrates a new currency design for the Mexican Peso. This design includes three features of Mexican culture, including the Mayan Temples, the Mexican Seal and a decorated skull for the Day of the Dead. The design needed to include identification features as seen on other bills such as the bill amount, series number, and the text Banco de Mexico as seen on all of the Mexican pesos. I chose to emphasize information on the design with shapes and a stroke of color. I also used cross hatching in the background to turn the designs and features into one concise design.
