The Goddess was a 16 week long project studying 3D design in the form of sculpture, woodwork, painting and sewing to create a marionette and a stage. My creation focused on recreating an art piece by Kris Kuksi.
The aim of the project was to mimic and capture the original art piece in the form of a 3D marionette and stage, but on my way I got creative with my own ideas to use the materials available to me and see another side to the work. I decided that she was in fact a goddess with a crown above her head and the stage is her throne. This allowed me to design her royal gowns and figure out how exactly I wanted to express her presence through the art.

The project started off with sculpting the head hands and feet of the marionette, I wanted to follow what I could see of the original piece and went further by creating what I couldn't see such as the back of the head, hands and feet. They are all spray painted to blend into the background or the stage. The stage is created out of wood and put together from scratch, I added embellishments of wood and metal to the back of the stage to try and recreate the original image. I also added rounded pieces of wood to the roof to hold up the controller of the marionette and make it look more like a stage. I also added a skirt to the bottom and curtains on the side that can be raised or lowered. The controller is made of wood that was carved and then spray painted to look like metal. I created a stuffed body for the marionette to hold together the head, hands, and feet. I then sewed a dress with long draping sleeves and a train. Attached to it is a bodice and an embroidered cape that trails behind her as she walks.
